Rosa's story begins in a rural Animal Shelter in eastern Kentucky. She and her three beautiful puppies ended up there for reasons unknown to us. What is apparent when you see Rosa is that she has had more than her share of puppies for a young dog. Rosa's luck changed when the Director of Boone County Animal Shelter decided to take her and her puppies back to Northern Kentucky, back to our shelter.
We don't have "before" pictures of Rosa, but if you can imagine one of her eyes, totally milky white and unseeing. A Veterinarian that helped with Rosa, Dr. Tucker, says "Rosa came to the BCAS with a blind, bulging, and chronically painful eye. We are uncertain about the initial insult, however due to the severe pain and poor prognosis of saving the eye we opted to remove it. She recovered from surgery extremely well and was wagging her tail within minutes. She will continue on antibiotics and pain medication for several days. I look forward to Rosa's continued successful recovery and enjoyment of a pain-free life."
The next step is to put Rosa into a foster home. Eventually, when she is healed and medically cleared, we will put her up for adoption. No more babies for this sweet girl, no more painful living, we know that Rosa has a wonderful and loving home waiting for her and can't wait to see her in it.
When you donate to the BCAS medical fund, you are helping dogs like Rosa who need a second (or third, or fourth) chance at a pain-free life. We are so happy to be able to help Rosa and dogs like her. Thank you to our medical staff for their hard work and dedication, and thank you for your support!
*Any donations to the medical fund can be mailed to the shelter, with "Medical Fund" in the memo line. Boone County Animal Shelter 5643 Idlewild Rd. Burlington, KY 41005*
Rosa LOVES affection. When she was coming out of anesthesia she crawled over to me and put her head in my hands, all the while wagging her tail.
Pretty obvious here that the sweet girl has been a mother many times..we see a lot of Hope in her eyes. What do you think?
Beautiful Girl.
She can't understand what we have done for her, but it feels like she is thanking us anyway.
Even in recovery, Rosa is a playful girl!
